Overthe years, the American political culture has evolved and changedremarkably. Nonetheless, the core codes of conduct are characterizedby several similar elements. These factors have been able tosuccessfully influence the functioning of the government to theadvantage of the citizens. They include liberty, democracy, politicalequality, individualism, diversity and unity among others. The UnitedStates system of governance works within these core ideals andvalues. The government has been divided into three functional armswhich include the legislative, the executive and the judiciary. Thelegislature contains the Congress which is made up of the House ofRepresentatives and the Senate. Its core mandates are to make andenact laws. The executive focuses on carrying out and enforcing thelaws developed by the legislative branch. It consists of thepresident, the vice president, and the cabinet. The third arm whichis the judiciary is made up of the Supreme Court and any other courtwithin the state. It focuses on interpreting the laws and evaluatingthem. It also determines whether any law violates the constitutionalrequirements (Thomson, 2014). Although these arms of the governmentmay seem distinct, they are interdependent and works in unison.
TheOffice of Congressional Ethics (OCE) was developed back in 2008, andit was meant to maintain discipline amongst the members of the Houseof Representatives and their staff. Its core mandates are to reviewallegations against misconduct and issue penalties, in any case, ifone is charged guilty. Representative Charles B. Rangel is among manyof the house’s powerful congressmen that the OCE has been able topunish for their inability to manage their behavior. In November2010, the Office of Congressional Ethics convicted him for violating11 clear congressional rules related to his individual finances andhis efforts to fundraise in support of a New York college. By 2010,the Democratic Representative Charles Rangel had served the Congressfor forty years and in his statement, he expressed his hope that thefull ethics committee would put into consideration his service to thepeople and charge him reasonably. Charles Rangel had been accused ofmisusing his congressional staff as well has his official letterheadwhere he successfully raised a seven- figure contribution fromseveral charitable organizations. He was also arraigned for breakingNew York City laws after conducting political committees in his rent-controlled mansions. The New York’s Democratic Representative wasalso charged for failing to pay taxes for his villa positioned in theDominion Republic. He had also neglected to disclose the net worth ofhis personal financial assets truthfully. Mr. Rangel was censured forhaving brought discredit to the House (Newman, 2010). Although Mr.Rangel is one of the famous congressmen in the state, he had failedin his leadership, and the punishment was fair for him. Violating 11rules out the 13 rules of the house is utterly reprehensible. Anyonewho breaks such a great deal of the official codes deserves apunishment that serves as a warning to the rest of the members. Suchpunishments also promote transparency among leaders, and the citizenscan trust them.
Inthe political history of the United States of America, no third-partycandidates have ever been able to set their feet in the white house.Despite the vast political freedom and presence of ideologicaldifferences anyone not wedded to the Democratic or the RepublicanParty remain symbolic during the entire campaign and the electionsperiod. Although the third- parties may have money, organization andappear on the ballot papers, they have consistently been unable towin due to the inability to break the entry barriers set by the twolargest political parties (Geri & McNabb, 2015). The majorparties have instilled a notion among people that third-partycandidates are “vote’s spoilers” for those people embeddedwithin the mainstream parties. People have over time become loyal tothese two sides and find it hard to waste their votes through thethird- parties. The fear for voting a losing candidate deter themfrom voting for third party participants. Rose Perrot and Ralph Naderare amongst the few candidates who were vibrant but could not breakthe cord of loyalty to the Republican and the Democratic parties.Another problem that the third –party face and makes them notperform in the elections stem from the media. Third party candidateshave been denied chances to take part in presidential debates whichgive these participants opportunities to sell their manifestos. Theyhave also been deprived of media air time. Inability to use the mediamakes them incapable of reaching broad geographical regions and keepsthe public unaware of their existence. In simple terms, third-partieshave not been recognized in the United States or given a chance towin.

Oneof the major issues facing the United States today is thedissatisfaction with the government. However, this kind of uncertainpolitical atmosphere might have been brought by the trendingcampaigns as the nation nears the central elections. There have alsobeen instances of increased terrorism, and the citizens blame thegovernment for it. Nonetheless, the ruling government ought tosatisfy the residents of the United States through the provision ofpublic services and increasing their efforts to combat terrorismattacks. The government has planned on strategies to improveinformation analysis and strengthen the law enforcement departmentsto enable them detect and prevent crime from ever happening. TheUnited States’ constitution allows implementation of any policiesthat focus on ensuring that the well-being of the citizens issafeguarded as long as these laws do not go against human rights.
TheUnited States remains to be the epitome of knowledge and advancement.It does not matter who reigns as long as they follow the laid downcodes of conduct that govern the people. As long as service tohumanity should always remain an integral part of the government,then our nation will continue to be adored.
