Sharingin God’s Restoration Tasks
Describe 3 aspects of the Great Commission (Mat 28:18-20) of every believer in spreading the Good News of the Good Life
Acommission is basically an authorization for someone to performparticular task or duties on behalf of another person. The GreatCommission refers to Christ’s final instructions to his disciplesprior to his ascension. Primarily, the Great Commission is found inthree scriptures Matthew 28: 18-20, Mark 16: 15-18 and Luke 24: 47.
“ThenJesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earthhas been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of theHoly Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commandedyou. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’”(Matthew28:18-20).
Thefirst thing that Christ said to his disciples is that they should goout and preach the gospel to the entire creation. However, this isnot only the responsibility of the disciples but of every follower ofChrist. Christians have been commanded to reach out all over theworld, telling everyone about Jesus Christ. In addition to this, itis required that they make disciples of all believers of Christ, whoshall in turn not only obey his commandments but also educate otherbelievers to follow in the same steps.
Inthis regard, the three aspects include preaching the gospel of Jesus(Acts 8: 4), creating disciples and obeying the commands of Christ.Looking at Christ’s ministry, Christians are instructed to followHis example, thereby emulating his manner of teaching which involvedthe principle of multiplication. Multiplication produces disciples asopposed to merely producing converts. A Christian who makes a convertmust take the responsibility of discipling them (1 Cor. 4: 14). Bythis, all followers of Christ must become evangelists andmissionaries in their households, neighborhoods, schools, places ofwork and worldwide (Doughty, 2012).
Describe the undeniable, crucial empowering element to the success of every believer in carrying out the Commission of our Lord to the ends of the earth
Theempowering element to the success of every believer’s work incarrying out the Lord’s commission to the ends of the earth is thepresence of the Holy Spirit. After Jesus commissioned the disciplesto perform the duties assigned to them of preaching the gospel, making disciples and following his commands, he promised them ahelper, comforter and guide. This helper took the form of the HolySpirit who came down on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2: 1-13). The HolySpirit is the third person in the Holy Trinity after God the Fatherand God the Son. Upon receiving the Holy Spirit, the disciples wereempowered to carry on with the works of Christ. To date, the Spiritrelates the truth of God’s word to the minds of men so as toconvince them of their sinful nature. Man then responds to thisconviction through salvation. This is evidenced in John 16: 7-11 whenChrist promised to help the disciples by sending a helper to “convictthe world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment”.
